Introducing: Mrs. Sheila McPherson - Yamaha
Sheila began learning piano at age 10 and flute in high school. She earned a Bachelor of Music (Education) from the University of Ottawa. She had the opportunity to study with Marcel Moyse, recognized as one of the master flutists of his time. She has taught both piano and flute privately at her home studio throughout the years. Other than piano, she was the Director of Music of a military band in Winnipeg for 15 years. She was the first female director of an army band in Canada and achieved the rank of Captain. Under her directorship, the band went from about 12 to 35 members.
They performed regularly at military and civilian functions, including a performance for Prince Charles. She organized all musical aspects of Winnipeg's 60th anniversary of D-Day ceremoies including a ceremonial parade, massed band concert and formal ball. Her responsibilities in the military included recruiting, administration, training and musical evaluation. She took a number of years off from teaching to raise her family.
Now that her daughters are grown, she is enthusiastically directing her efforts towards teaching. As well as teaching piano privately, she plays the flute in the Cappy Smart Band of the Calgary Fire Department. In 2009, the band had the opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall.
Sheila is glad to join Musica Academy's team and is the current assistant manager of Musica Academy.
